Superman is out in theaters now, and while fans have been enjoying the first movie entry in the DCU, many are underwhelmed by the post-credits scenes in James Gunn’s new film.

Why viewers are criticizing Superman post-credit scenes
The new movie follows in the footsteps of many past comic book/superhero films, and does feature multiple post-credits scenes. With this being the first film foray into the DCU for Gunn and DC Studios, many fans anticipated something major or important to be involved in one of the two scenes.
Instead, both Superman post-credits scenes act more as additional clips from the movie. The mid-credits scene is a cute nod to Superman and Krypto’s relationship, while the final one is simply an additional scene that references the end of the movie.
While both scenes do have a place in the movie and aren’t bad scenes explitictly, some fans felt a bit underwhelmed as a whole by them. With Marvel Studios largely setting the expectation that post-credits scenes always set up some sort of future event (especially in the early days of the MCU, when Thanos would appear throughout them), fans assumed something similar would happen with Superman.
Whether it be the tease of an eventual Justice League or perhaps a look at the upcoming Supergirl, fans were hoping for more. However, James Gunn has traditionally never used his movies’ post-credits scenes, even the MCU ones, as ways to tease future projects. Instead, the director chose to let the movie stand on its own.
Thankfully, Superman doesn’t suffer for this, but it would have been nice to potentially see a little more of what’s behind the curtain for the planned DCU. As of now, we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see what Gunn and co. have in store.
